Well, it’s getting to be about that time when work dies down and I’m able to spend more time doing fun stuff.  In addition to being about business (see previous post, lol!!), I love going to the movies.  Here are the one’s I’m looking forward to:

Red: This movie looks super cute!  It’s got Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirrin      (looking too good!)…a bunch of other stars.  It’s about former CIA agents who are trying to figure out why the CIA is now after them.

Megamind: I love a good cartoon and this one looks funny.  It has Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Brad Pitt.

Life As We Know It: Yes, I understand that we already know how this movie will turn out before it even starts.  Who cares?  I love a good romance and Katherine Heigl knows romance!  I’ll be there and I’ll be sure to say, “awww!”

Due Date: Robert Downey, Jr. (who I love!) and the bearded Zach guy from The Hangover.  I can’t really tell from the previews, but for whatever reason RDJ can’t figure out a way home to see his wife have their baby without Zach’s help.  Hilarity ensues.

For Colored Girls: It’s a Tyler Perry movie (which is a strike, sorry folks), but I’m hoping the all-star cast will overcome him.  Janet Jackson, Thandie Newton, Loretta Devine, Kerry Washington, Phylicia Rashad, Whoopie Goldberg…and more!

Are there any movies you’re fired up about?

You MUST watch this video!  A co-worker of mine showed me this video a few days ago and I hollered!  It’s about “doing the do” once you’re an established couple and it is too funny.  Seriously…TOO funny!  Please, please watch it and listen carefully…it’s the witty kind of funny that actually requires you to pay attention.  Well worth it…let me know what you think.

FYI, the ladies in the office were cracking up and the men were just shaking their heads…which made it even funnier!

So I was visiting Simple Marriage’s blog today and saw this picture and it made me giggle.  He’s got a series about stripping away the unnecessary and focusing on the bare essentials…but I wondered what I could come up with for captions for the picture.

  • Chica: Ummmm, could I get a leaf that’ll cover my ta-ta’s please?
  • Chica: *to Dude*  I see that leaf of yours is at attention…don’t even think about it!
  • Both: Why are our heads so ginormous?
  • Dude: *to Chica* The next time we go for a run, maybe we should put some clothes on!
  • Both: Oh my goodness…there’s Sue and Jared, close your eyes and pretend like we didn’t see them!

So do you have any captions for this pic?  Hit me up in the comments!

…and make him eat good food!

I know some of you out there are like me and a little nutty about food.  I’m totally anti “food” that’s just add water and eat for dinner.  Now don’t get me wrong, we’ll still have those bad for you (but oh so tasty) Little Debbie snack cakes around the house…but for “real” food?  It’s got to be immediately recognizable as food.  Like an actual fruit or vegetable.  Or a cut of meat that looks like, well, meat…and not a pieced together mish mash of meat pieces.

Anyhoo, here are the ways I try to stay on top of feeding my fam the good stuff:

  1. Eat fresh foods. I have the world’s biggest junk food tooth.  I won’t say sweet tooth, because it goes well beyond the sweets, because I like the salty’s too, lol!  But to balance it all out, I put a lot of effort into making sure that we’ve got healthy and tasty options prepared and ready to go in the fridge.  Our dinners are always made with real food and we typically have fresh veggies and fruits in their for munching and snacks.
  2. Cook. That’s obvious right?  I should have said, cook in large quantities.  I’ll make a couple of meals at a time, because I don’t know about you…but my job has me working like a field slave.  So I don’t have time to come home everyday talking about making dinner.  When I cook, I usually make enough for a couple of lunches and dinners to come from one meal.  I’d prefer to cook fresh everyday (and I do when I’m off in the summers…thank you academic calendar!), but that’s just not an option while I’m working.
  3. Learn. My mom is a good cook and she made healthy meals for us when I was growing up, so she set a good example.  But once I started learning about food and what it does for our body…I got serious about eating good stuff.  Michael Pollan’s books have been super helpful for my learning why crappy food is crappy and why I should eat the good stuff.  That may sound silly, but when I’m faced with choice of Micky D’s or homemade…his books have helped bring me back from the fast food ledge.

Anyhoo, I’d love to hear what your household (whether you cook or it’s your hubby) does for food.  Do you talk about cooking and how you eat?  Or do you secretly make the fam eat healthy?  Do your kiddos like healthy or no?

I’m obviously in a sappy mood tonight.  I bought a song based on an NFL commercial and now I’m in love with it…seriously.  You guys know that I’m a huge NFL fan and happily spend my Sundays perched in front of the television.  A few weeks ago I saw a commercial with the tagline “There’s No Place Like Home” with this absolutely fabulous song on it and I bought it.

Then I heard the whole thing.

It’s wonderful I tell ya!  The lyrics make me want to give The Mister lots of big, huge hugs and tell him how much I love him.  This song makes me smile.  It makes my heart feel like someone is squeezing it a little…I love it.  Watch the video at your own risk…you will love your hubby with a sappy, sweet, sticky love.  Here’s a preview of the chorus:  “Home is when I’m alone with you”…and if you don’t think that’s super awesome, “home is whenever I’m with you.”  Awwwwww!!!

Anyhoo, “Home” by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

Same song, but live on the Letterman show.  Warning…they’re kooky!

Do you really want to be married? October 17, 2010

It’s sometimes what I think when I hear some of my friends loooong list of demands desires in a mate.  A friend of mine posted this on Facebook and I thought it was too funny…it’s called Black Marriage Negotiations!  They’re literally at the board room table hashing it out!  But, and maybe I’m wrong, I don’t think that this type of attitude is solely in the Black community.  I’ve got plenty of friends who aren’t Black with their hands on their collective hips talking about what they want in a man.

Anyhoo, I’m not saying ladies need to pick up dude from off of the exit ramp holding up his cardboard sign…but there’s a lot of good men out there.  And remember, in order to demand perfection…you’ve got to be perfect yourself.

Here’s the video…hit me up in the comments with what you think.

Since I work in athletics, nights and weekends are always busy for me…except this weekend.  I’m working tomorrow night, them I’m off Saturday and Sunday.  You have to understand that I haven’t two days off in a row since early August…so I’m stoked!  The Mister will be gallivanting around Madison because one of his groomsmen has tickets to the Ohio State/Wisconsin game (yes, he’s going to a football game featuring the #1 team in the country…jerk!), so I’m on my own on Saturday night.

So ladies…what should I do?
