About weddings. About relationships. About the first year of being married.

About The Happy Nappy Bride December 18, 2009

Hola chicas!  I’m Dawn & I just got married to an absolutely fantabulous, cute, sweet, wonderful man!  I love sports (volleyball in particular), Buffalo Wild Wings, working out, and reading.

I started off talking about what it meant to be a bride and a bride of color.  Now I’m chatting with you guys about the first year of marriage…and what’s different because I’m a Black lady.

I really like your blog and would love to follow it. Does wordpress allow followers? If so how can I follow your blog??

I should probably know the answer to this, but I don’t! 🙂 I’ll check into it, but in the meantime, bookmark my page and I’ll let you know.

    Hi there,

I saw your comment on CreoleInDc’s blog and it led me here. I am also a bride to be. I got engaged December 18, 2009 and have just started my wedding planning.

I look forward to reading your posts.

I just found you via Louise’s Thirty-Something Bride blog, and I’m excited to comb through the archives. I love finding more and more intelligent women challenging the popular/marketed image of “bride.” Good luck with your planning, and keep up the great work.

Found your blog via TIH (Tiffany in Houston). Saw you mention taking a floral arrangement course. Any updates on that? I’m considering taking one this summer and have no clue what to expect. Did you find 5 sessions to be enough?

Well, this class was less about my narrow focus, BUT I did get to know the florist who runs the class and she’s helping bunches!

I love the pics! As much as I enjoyed wedding plan doesn’t it feel really nice to just be married? (is that terribly unliberated for me to say?)

Hi…just wanted to say you are a beautiful bride. I really hope this sheds light on bridal magazines and women of color. Wow the money that would be made….because women of color do marry too……….it is not a taboo.

I wish you and ur hubby much luck, success, happiness and may Gods blessings never end for you guys.

Another question are you a Delta?

  10. Hello!

I am sooo happy to find your blog. I am the Editor of the upcoming wedding and socials section for the Dallas Weekly (an African American newspaper). The reason I decided to start this column was to feature brides of color…black, brown and in between. The major magazines have overlooked this market. There are a few publications, however, NONE of them include brown people on a consistent basis. I am a florist and wedding designer. My website is down getting a makeover, but please visit my blog: Please call me when you get a chance I’d love to visit. 214.426.6360.

This says there were 22 responses. I believe mine was one of them on July 18, 2010. Wanted to see if, indeed, you did respond – not that computer skilled to know if I need to “keep searching!” Looking forward to using this site as a resource and am hoping my computer skills are sufficient! The info you share is so practical. Very useful, particularly for we seasoned citizens making marriage a part of our journey in our 60s and beyond.
