According to our wedding website, we’ve got thirty five days ’til our wedding.  Because of that, I’ve got vendor meetings on my to-do list.  Yesterday, The Mister and I met with our caterer and the manager at our reception site so that we could discuss how things are gonna be laid out and everything.  Our reception’s going to be at a mansion rather than a banquet hall, so the planning was a little more involved I think.  Here’s the layout:

The top part of the paper is where the entrance is and as you can see, each room will have food in it.  But the caterer’s doing a progressive meal.  So appetizers will be in the front two rooms, then they’ll get taken away and dinner will be in the middle two rooms, then that’ll get taken away, then “nibbles”‘ and dessert will be in the back room.  There’ll be sit down tables interspersed with bistro height table all in the hopes of encouraging folks to mix and mingle.  The dj will set up in the front (top) left room in a bay window and the bar is in the back room, which will mainly be a transition room with just a couple of tables.  The back room also has the bathrooms and leads to the super sweet patio.

Anyhoo, it was very exciting to walk through the mansion again…it’s truly gorgeous and I know the guests will love it.  Next up:  meet with the photographer, dj, and baker.

My mom is coming into town this weekend and I’m pretty fired up.  As we get closer to the wedding date, she’s getting super excited and I’m getting super excited…so we’ll have a very excited weekend.

The to-do list is pretty short.  Probably shopping (why not?) and getting undergarments for the wedding dress.  I’m fired up about this for a couple of  reasons.  I’ll get to try on my dress and shoes and whatnot, plus I know that mom’ll be pretty stoked to see me all dudded up in my wedding dress.

Here are some options for undies for the big day.  I’d worry about a little pooch poking out in this one, but it’s cute:

I think this is the one I wore when I first bought my dress.  I liked it because it gave me boobs!  I remember thinking, “I didn’t come into the store with these things!”:

This last one looks like it’d keep everything together:

Do you know what you’re wearing underneath yet?  Bra…full body deal…corset?  “Experts” say to buy a bunch of different ones and see which fits the best and return the rest…is anyone doing that?

I’ve just spent entirely too much time looking for a better picture of Ugly Betty’s hair from her sister’s wedding.  It was a super cute curly side ponytail…I think I wanna try it for the big day!

wedding bands April 11, 2010

After church today, The Mister and I went looking for wedding bands.  The timing wasn’t great, after church is usually naptime.  Or rather, grab some food and then catch a nap-time.  But since we’re kinda running out of time, I figured we should get on it.  We went to four different jewelers just to get an idea of what he’d like and these are our top choices as of now:

Our fave:

Runner up…hammered gold:

This one’s different…maybe too different:

What do you think?  The Mister’s got incredibly large fingers (size 15!) so that limits some of what we can do in terms of rings.  He was pretty thoughtful about the whole process which was pretty cool.  He’d try on a ton of rings, ask a lot of questions, ask about sale prices…I was impressed!  I tried to stand back and let him run the show and not be too bossy and I like the choices that he came up with.

Now I just want to check online to see if I can beat the prices those folks quoted me before I drop the kind of cash they were talking.  Have you and your dude gone looking for rings yet?  How was he during the process?

I’m a bit anal.  Everyone in my family makes fun of me for it…all of my friends know it.  I like things to be in order, all neat and tidy.  So I suppose it’s no surprise that I’ve started coming up with timelines to give to my wedding party, coordinators, and vendors.  I promise it’s not just because I find order to be fabulous…it’s also because I don’t want to be a crazy person on the wedding day.  I really want to be able to rely on my ‘maids and coordinators to get things done on May 28th.  I plan on handing my Blackberry over to my MOH in the morning and taking a backseat so that I’m not driving myself (and others!) crazy.

My wedding workbook has sample timelines for everyone and here they are:

This is the cover of the book…

Vendor timeline sample…

For the wedding party…

So I’ve started putting together timelines for the week of…so that I can keep track of when wedding party folks are arriving in to town, when flowers are arriving, when to get my eyebrows done, etc.  Then I’ve got a general one for the wedding day itself, then specifics for the day.

What are you doing to keep yourself organized?  How will you make sure that those people you’re trusting to help you out on the day of will get it right?

This is $20.

I think it’s pretty cute.

But I don’t need it.

Is this a waste of money?

A monogrammed bouquet holder?

…for the post office!

The invitations will go out today!  Is it weird that I want to take them to the post office myself?  Like hand them to the lady behind the counter?  The Mister giggled when I said wanted to take them and hand them over to a person and not just drop them in the box, but for whatever reason it makes me feel more comfortable.

Vows March 26, 2010

In the early stages of planning, I cut out a clipping of vows that I liked from a magazine…can’t remember which, remember I own over thirty five wedding magazines.  It’s in one of them!  Then The Mister came home from work one day and someone was talking about their vows…and ours were crazily similar.  He was talking to a Hindu dude and these are the vows that they say.  If you click on the link, you’ll see that my hackles were probably raised a bit by the first vow…but the style, the back and forth, and even the sentiment of the remaining vows were the same.  So we’ll come up with some that reflect who we are without being too weird.

You can click on the pic and see what it says for yourself, but here it is, Heidi & Nigam’s (whoever they are, lol!) vows:

Both:  I promise…
Heidi: Not to talk when you are driving and we are lost.
Nigam: To help you find your glasses when you can’t see.
Heidi: To make everyday a fresh start.
Nigam: To dance on command like a trained monkey to the theme music for House.
Heidi: To be compassionate.
Nigam: To try to see things from your point of view.
Heidi: To support you in whatever you choose to do.
Nigam: To support you in whatever you choose to do.
Heidi: To try to see the big picture.
Nigam: To try to focus on the details.
Heidi: To stand by you.
Nigam: To pick you up whenever you fall.
Heidi: To lean on you when I need help.
Nigam: To ask you for help.
Heidi: There is nothing you can’t tell me.
Nigam: I promise to let you in.
Heidi: To grow with you.
Nigam: To do something special for you everyday.
Heidi: To try not to hold grudges.
Nigam: To watch craptastic movies with you.
Heidi: I promise to love you.
Nigam: I promise to love you.
Both: And if you break any of these promises, I promise to forgive you and move on with our life together.

I really like the idea of these, the conversational tone, the promises to each other.  I think we’ll probably pass on the jokey stuff and stick with the sappy, sentimental stuff though.  Have you thought about vows?  Are you going traditional or writing your own?  I’ve heard bad stories of TMI with folks who write their own, so I’m trying to be cognizant of that as we think about writing ours.

receiving line? March 23, 2010

I don’t think we’re doing one.   I was talking to the lady who’s gonna be my DOC and told her that I was really worried about not talking to everyone at the reception and she said:  why don’t you come back in after you’ve said “I do” and thank everyone then? Genius!

The way it’ll work is, we’ll exit the chapel and our officiant will tell everyone to take a seat because the Mr. and Mrs. will be coming back soon.  The Mister and I will smooch and hug and be excited that we’re married.  Then we’ll come back into the chapel (great photo op, I’m hoping!) all cheesy and happy.  We’ll walk back up to the front of the chapel and then row by row, folks will exit…and as they exit, we’ll shake their hand/give them a hug/thank them for coming such a long way, etc.

It’ll be quick, but at least everyone will get some face time with us.  Then at the reception, we can have in depth convos with folks as we can, but we won’t be stressed out that we didn’t talk to cousin so and so or auntie whatchamacallit.  As I’ve said before, I’m shakin’ my tail at that reception…if you want to talk, join me on the dance floor!  We plan on being there for the cocktail hour (not taking pics), but I’ve heard of so many folks say that they tried and failed to talk to everyone at their reception.

How are you and your dude trying to chat with your family and friends who made the trip to your wedding?

transportation…again March 22, 2010

**Update: the Jaguar dude emailed me back and was like, I misquoted you…it’s $190.  I guess that settles it, huh?**

Since The Mister informed me that he wanted to have a car and driver take us from our ceremony to our reception, I’ve been hard at work searching out our options.  Since we’re doing it, I wanna do it up right!  We’ll be in this vehicle for the half an hour it’ll take to get from our chapel to the reception site…and maybe it can be in a few pics?

Here are my top two options and I’m looking for opinions here please!  The Rolls Royce is choice #1.  I like it because it’s an old school looking car…but it’s also more expensive than option #2.  $400 will get me the car and includes gratuity, red carpet, champagne w/engraved glasses that’ll have our names and wedding dates on them.

Then there’s option #2…the Jaguar.  It’s pretty fancy and sporty, I’m wondering if The Mister will like this one better because of that.  It’s iPod capatible and if we want, we can watch a DVD on the way to the reception in there too!  It’s $250 including driver gratuity, red carpet, “just married” signs, and champagne.

So what do you think?  Old school fancy or modern fancy?
