I wrote a couple of weeks ago about my hair journey from relaxer to flat iron…and all of the stops in between.
Once The Mister asked me to marry him, I had a freakout about my hair. How would I wear it? What style? Long or short? Because remember, I’d just chopped off my hair a year earlier, so it was pretty short…so many options! Then I decided that I’d focus on growing it out and if I wanted it short, I could always cut it…but I’d better put the time in to grow it out just in case.
Enter the vitamins. Now, I’m not a doctor and I don’t even play one on TV, so don’t go out buying these vitamins and get all mad if your hair doesn’t grow. All I’m saying is that my hair has grown and gotten thicker with these. Take that for what you will. Whenever The Mister asks about the vitamins, I just say, “long, lustrous hair!” Not, “I want long, lustrous hair for the wedding.” Just…”long, lustrous hair!”
The Mister: Do you really need to take all of those?
Me: Long, lustrous hair!
The Mister: How’s the hair coming along?
Me: Long, lustrous hair!
The Mister: What are all of those vitamins for?
Me: Long, lustrous hair!
I take one of each of these a day: fish oil, multi, hair/skin/nails, 1k mcg biotin, 5k mcg biotin. I’m the O.G.: Original Googler, so I looked up a mess of information on growing hair and whatnot and this is the cocktail that’s been working for me. I was taking two of the 5k biotins and was having trouble sleeping, so off I went to Google…and of course, this can be a side effect. That’s how I ended up with the 1k.
My hair’s pretty long now, but I keep it curled and pinned up so that it’s not rubbing against my collar and breaking off. I went to this website a bunch for tips…and no, she’s not sponsoring this post or anything…and no, I haven’t bought any of her products…it’s just a good site. It’s called “Grow Afro Hair Long” and she talks about how to wash, straighten, braid your way to long hair. I don’t do everything that’s on there, but it’s got lots of good tips.
I’ll keep you updated and good luck out there!
(Long, lustrous hair!)
Love it! I’ve always been interested in vitamins that are supposed to be good for your hair, nails and skin, but I struggle to remember to take my multi vitamin, so I’m sure I wouldnt remember to take that pill (s) either. LOL.
Before our wedding, I promised my hair dresser that I wouldnt cut it for a year – allegedly growing it out for the wedding. I dont know why I agreed to that – my hair was to my bra strap and I still had several months to go! Eventually I went rogue and cut it a few months before (it was still down my back), deciding that if I wanted Beyonce hair I could just buy some like everyone else does.
Yay long lustrous hair 🙂
My dad used to take handfuls of vitamins, so I guess I can say it’s in my blood!
I haven’t straightened it hard in a while, so I’m not sure exactly how long it is…but I know it’s not that long. Another thing I know…I hate doing my hair! Hate, hate, hate! Which is why I was in dreads and braids…and also why it’s curled and pinned up. That way I don’t have to worry about it.
I had no idea what to do with my hair for my wedding. I no longer chemically straighten it and I live in Florida and couldn’t risk sweating out my hair… at the end of the day, I purchased a lace front wig for $30 the night before the wedding and called it a day. I just braided my hair underneath and kept it moving – low cost, didn’t have to sit in a shop and then I could just take it off the next day lol
Wigs scare me because I sweat a lot (I know, very ladylike) and I don’t want to have a flash at the ceremony! 🙂
… now you’re making me want to hit up the herbal store by my house to get some vitamins for my hair. I don’t really care about length so much, I just want it thicker!

They say that’s what the biotin is for…
I took Fish Oil once for a different reason and it left my belly in twisted painful knots! HORRID!
A word to the wise folks!
I think I’m gonna try this, I really really want to grow my hair out.
It’s been working for me! I combed out my hair this weekend (to re-roll it) and The Mister was like, “dang, your hair is long!” 🙂
Shin Min is the best! No need to take all those tablets. I’ve been taking it for years and I stopped last year (I don’t like to take anything that long) and my hair continued to grow. You just take two pills a day and the results are very quick. Good Luck!! 🙂
Alright girl, I may give it a try…can I get it at a regular CVS or Walgreens or do I have to go to a health store?
